Zinc is a trace mineral that is needed for maintaining a healthy immune system, by means of making new cells and enzymes, processing carbohydrates and healing wounds. Good sources of zinc include meat, fish, fairy foods, breads and cereals.
Taking high doses of zinc reduces the amount of copper the body can absorb. This can lead to anaemia and weakening of the bones. Therefore, don’t take more than 25mg of zinc supplements a day unless it has been specifically advised to do so by a doctor.
