OmegaFactors Marine Algae-3 is a 100% vegetarian source of both eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) long chain omega-3 fatty acids. It is made from specially selected microalgae grown in a controlled environment, eliminating the risk of ocean-borne contaminants such as PCBs and dioxins. Microalgae are a key source of EPA and DHA in the food chain and their availability as a dietary supplement is a major advance in human nutrition. Other plant sources of omega-3s, such as flax, chia, and hemp seeds, contain alpha-linolenic acid (ALA), a shorter chain omega-3, which the body must convert into EPA and DHA – a process that is not very efficient. One study found that less than 0.4% of ALA was converted to EPA and DHA combined. Marine Algae-3 provides highly concentrated, preformed EPA and DHA, bypassing the need for conversion.
